Fashion as Expression

Aminta Online / Style Blog

7 years documenting my style

This page is dedicated to my past life as a "fashion blogger."

It all started in 2010, when I met someone on a flight who had a sister who takes pictures of her self and posts them online. Before that I had never heard of a "blog," but when we landed that flight I searched online and quickly saw the potential for it to be a medium for expression.

I had always loved to create and express myself in different ways. A blog seemed like perfect place for me. A place where I could be free! I could share my style, my costumes, and even create imaginary characters.

www.amintaonline.com was born, and updated as my personal style blog from 2010 to 2017.

On it, I documented my style almost daily for 7 years. Through blogging I found a new way of expression. Planning, styling and photographing experimental looks with anything available within my reach, when I had explored everything in my closet I used to use pieces of fabric, a table cloth, curtains even, any textile was welcome. Thrifting was also an exciting adventure, I would go often "treasure hunting" in second hand stores and vintage shops.

Working with limitations sparks creativity, made me use and reuse and use again the same pieces, but every time in a different way. Wearing shirts as skirts or pants, layering garments, wearing oversized pieces. Everything was a yes! I saw my limited resources as opportunities.

I have always dressed like this and I will continue to express myself through clothing. I would totally wear today any of the looks you see below. Being your self is "never outdated"

Reflecting on my experience I realize that I was at the beginning of an industry under development, fashion blogging. What started as a medium of expression for me, turned into getting paid to go to events, or put links / banners on my blog, sent free products from brands I love, featured in magazines / TV in Spain, and sponsored travel. I am so grateful for my good fortune to have these experiences.

Putting together this page to commemorate my blog brought so many memories, getting "all dressed up" or "in costume" just for the pleasure of creating. Some days, many days I wasn't going anywhere. I lived in big cities for a period of time, but also in very, very small towns in Spain. My style journal, aka blog, kept me alive, creative, inspired, accountable. I met people from around the world that years later got lucky enough to met in person and now I can call some of them friends. I was able to make a living off my blog for a few years, through it I visited London and Japan, discovered the manufacturing process of brands I admire and one of the most exciting parts, it brought me to We Love Colors.
